Album Review: Monarchy -- Abnocto

17 March 2015 | 3:12 pm | Roshan Clerke

"Monarchy have always sounded better remixed or featuring on other people’s songs, but like the real monarchy, there’s a fascinating and sometimes guilty pleasure in following what they do."

The London-based duo’s second album is scattered.

Monarchy have always sounded better remixed or featuring on other people’s songs, but like the real monarchy, there’s a fascinating and sometimes guilty pleasure in following what they do. Living Without You, It’s All I Know and Falling In Love With A Memory show a great pop sensibility, but rest vary too much to grace with flattery. Floating interludes like Almost Human are indebted to Daft Punk, while Disintegration is a foray into full-on dance music.
