More Mogwai Mogwai

Scottish art-rock noise merchants Mogwai have become renowned over their 20-year career for bludgeoning live shows where volume and brute force are their primary weapons, but 34-track career retrospective Central Belters proves that there's nuance and light/shade dichotomies aplenty in their arsenal as well.

Their rich, oft-instrumental soundscapes mine moods of anger and melancholy for the most part, although an off-kilter pop sensibility pops up from the margins at random intervals and the first two-discs's chronological order shines light on their sonic evolution as well. Two decades well spent.
