Album Review: MOD CON - Modern Convenience

5 April 2018 | 11:44 am | Keira Leonard

"A compelling and downright groovy debut album."

MOD CON deliver a compelling and downright groovy debut album. Full of girl power and catchy melodies, it's one that'll make you want to dance around the house in a somewhat angry manner.

Erica Dunn, Sara Retallick and Raquel Solier prove themselves a force to be reckoned with on Modern Convenience. Although the three have worked together under the name Palm Springs, MOD CON reveals a more edgy, fast-paced side to the trio.

Second track Submit brings the first real taste of back-up vocals from Retallick. Alongside Dunn's crazy dynamic voice, they create a sound reminiscent of Joan Jett with a dash of Daria. Over five and a half minutes, Bad Time At The Hilton changes tack from the more upbeat vibe of the first half of the album, finishing with an enchanting instrumental before getting back into their grungier tone.

Nailing angsty yet nonchalant vocals, incredible instrumentals and thought-provoking lyrics, MOD CON deliver a solid debut album that's sure to leave a mark on the Australian music scene.
