This experimental release certainly has the vibe of a prelude or experiment. But within that context, these four short tracks impress with their energy and boldness, taking cues from Lemon Jelly. Largely computer-generated and predominantly instrumental, at times, Bruyant 1929 proves wholly jarring and unmelodious. The watery tones of I Wish I Was Pretty trickle and pop in a gentle manner that’s both spacey and thoughtful, more of a caressing mind-stretcher than a mind-fuck. Throughout the EP, thin, contemplative segments of piano are a more grounded inclusion, which simultaneously provide brief moments of lightness.
