Planet Trip host their 1800 triiip mix series, with a similar sonic ethos of the record label from some of the best selectors around the globe.
If you think of a community leader in Eora/Sydney underground dance that you'd consider "scene dad", none more sticks out than Mike Who. With the title we don't mean the negative connotations associated with a father. We aren't talking bad jokes, horrible outfits or pure annoyance, rather a person that forever shares his wisdom, always willing to give advice, collaborate with other promoters, shed light on acts that deserve light as well as mentoring some of Australia's best up and coming DJs and promoters. Now, legend Mike Who has turned his attention to his relatively newly formed record label, event series and mix series titled, Planet Trip.
The record label is known for its soulful, dubby hip hop inspired house music. They've just announced the release of new EP, 'Rhum Dérangé / Searchin' by PT family member Caravan aka Paul Jextra for a heavyweight double sider 7" inch. Other standout release includes their Ordinary Dreams VA, a compilation which 100% of the sales were donated to Deadly Connections, a local Indigenous-led org who provide culturally responsive interventions and services to First Nations people and communities, particularly those who have been impacted by the child protection and/or justice systems. The tracklist featured hazy balearic trips, down and mid tempo chuggers or ambient, sun worthy, seaside reflective excursions. You can support the Planet Trip record label HERE.
Alongside the label they host their 1800 triiip mix series, with a similar sonic ethos of the record label. Tripped out, feel good, smile worthy mixes from some of the best selectors around the globe. Take for example, most recently an hour from Belo Horizonte repping Omoloko, who serves up gorgeous Kizomba, Cobo Verde and Zouk frequencies. A personal favourite from the series is episode 25, a soulful, happy moment from incredibly talented DJ, vocalist and producer Ivy Barkakati. There's a whole heap of incredible ones, check them all out below.
