Sue Giles and Ian Pidd have revived this original work, 20 years after its last run. Pidd plays Lionel Tonks, a reserved high school maths teacher whose dreams of escaping and becoming a songwriter become real only when he meets the lovely lyricist Verity Charity. They fall in love while writing “the great Australian musical” but Verity is mysteriously unwilling to reveal her true identity. It’s easy to understand why the pair chose to revisit such a sharp, clever and hilarious tale with unpredictable twists and fantastic performances.
