Excellent US label Captured Tracks have joined forces with Spunk Records, who're reissuing some of their better-selling offerings, including the slacker brilliance of Montreal guitarist Mac DeMarco's 2. The second of his two 2012 releases, 2 showcases Demarco's laconic mastery of both word and guitar – a modern-day amalgam of Jonathan Richman and a medicated Ty Segall. Warbled yacht rock (Freaking Out The Neighbourhood), anguished odes (My Kind Of Woman), lurking guitar pop chagrin (Ode To Viceroy) – all done with panache and a lopsided grin. Demarco is a superstar.
