LoneLadyJulie Ann Campbell’s Warp-backed debut may have slipped under the radar, but history doesn’t seem likely to repeat itself.
Hinterland is nothing less than a revelation. Revolving around the theme of inner landscapes – psycho-geography if you like – Hinterland impresses with supple, resourceful songwriting layered over anxious post-punk rhythms; a tight mesh of meticulously arranged instruments that sounds like Gang Of Four jamming with Talking Heads in an abandoned warehouse. I will eat my underpants if this doesn't see Campbell written into David Byrne's will.
