Mancunian chanteuse Liz Green creates a captivating world of folkloric jazzy cabaret on her second release, where hooping clarinets and theatrical piano motifs reign. Opener Battle is instantly transporting with Green's woody voice timidly skipping over swampy banjo, while the title track is no less moving, with meditative piano pulsing beneath her metaphoric lines. But it's not all so darkly intense, Into My Arms allowing Green to orchestrate a rousing swell of lush instruments around her more childlike piping. This album sheds more light on a unique and so far underrated talent – enthralling stuff.
