ARIA winning producer Tim Carr, better known as goldbatman, and Aussie singer Paul Conrad have teamed up as YUNG TZAR, and their first single 'Solange' perfectly represents their ethos: to cut through the bullshit and deliver their take on life.
The duo also co-run Reel Deep Records, a label dedicated to helping emerging artists thrive through low initial costs and protecting them from the pitfalls that plague the industry.
The track has a moody hip-hop atmosphere with dark synth pads and methodical percussion. The vocals switch between hard-hitting rapping in the versus and soulful singing in the chorus, giving the track a nice dichotomy of sound. The production is minimal yet has a strong presence: the verses are sparse yet strong, and the chorus soars with layers of vocals and synths that create a solid hook.
'Solange' is a refreshingly real single and a good proof of concept for Yung Tzar - as a duo priding themselves on being genuine they've brought that concept along perfectly.
