Live Review: Yon Yonson announce signing to TEEF with relatable single 'Berlin'

TEEF have just inked YON TONSON to the label to release a forthcoming album, they're celebrating the fact with that album's first single, 'Berlin'.

YON YONSON could almost be considered a cult Sydney group, quietly chipping away in the background, picking up another load of dedicated fans with every understated release.

So it's great to see them teaming up with another understated Sydney based label, TEEF, who have just inked them to the label to release a forthcoming album. Yon Yonson celebrate the fact with that album's first single, 'Berlin'.

'Berlin' continues the trio's trend of moulding pop melodies alongside sample based production and a touch of hip-hop lyricism. With clever electronic elements, beautiful piano lines and Yon Yonson’s signature vocals, the result is another step up in the unique and captivating soundscape we come to expect from the band.

Of course, it's not all sunshine, don't let the bright instrumentation fool you - as 'Berlin' speaks of a somber and honest tale. On the tracks lyrics, songwriter Andrew Kuo had this to say:

“The lyrics in Berlin were drawn from a conversation I had with an artist friend. It's a song about relative experience, cynicism and housing affordability. We were both dissatisfied and trying to decide whether to quit our shitty jobs and move overseas or bite the bullet and try get a higher paying shitty job in Sydney. He did the former and I'm trying to do the latter.”

'Berlin' is available from the TEEF Bandcamp, with a new album to be announced later this year.
