Meanjin/Brisbane production duo X CLUB. make their Steel City debut with a propulsive, obliterating new techno EP.
We said they were Artists to Watch in 2021, and god damn are they proving us right. Fresh off a stellar hometown show at which they performed live to a full house at Pray Tell's latest installment, Meanjin/Brisbane based duo X CLUB. are upping the ante with a propulsive, obliterating new EP as their Steel City Dance Discs debut — an all-out auditory assault and masterclass in their unique approach to techno.
Hooning through the five track release, X CLUB. flex their foundational techno sounds while infusing electro, rave and jungle elements. It's super-charged, chaotic and hard-hitting in all the right ways, which is pretty on brand for the pair, and with a very strong "ACAB" message interwoven clearly throughout, it's a release we will be rinsing for some time to come. From the booming bass of the opener 'Psychopath' to the frenetic drone of 'Cops Ain't Shit', the glitchy rave-influenced '6 Million Ways To Die', the nostalgia of the 90s inspired 'Bad Boy' and the final thundering chaos of 'Alert', this release is not for the faint-hearted.
Comprised of DJ Speed/Jesse Patrick and NORA DRUM, X CLUB. have continued to gain momentum even despite a pandemic. From remixing the likes of Dro Carey to releasing on labels such as VSN, as well as their own diverse, rave-ready originals (including an iconic remix of 'Pump Up The Jam' which sits at 25K plays), X CLUB. have steadily made their mark. Now, with this latest release as Volume 22 on SCDD, they level up. With plenty more still up their sleeves to come this year, it's all systems go for X CLUB.!
