Live Review: Tobiahs sets the bar high with 'Through To You'

Exuberantly youthful Melbourne producer TOBIAHS is back with what is arguably his most mature piece of work to date in 'Through To You'. The 19-year-old is an avid supporter of electronic music not just being solely just for dance and nightclubs, and with every release we witness his skill-set strengthening and his ideas coming to a wider fruition than ever before.

TOBIAHS has incredible control over some of the more wilder sound bites you'd tend to find in EDM music. He tames all these unpredictable echoes and synths and throws your more traditional BPM's out the window. Rather than producing music that is designed purely to invoke motion, Tobiahs has produced a listening experience that is few and far between, but one we've seen regularly done by the likes of FLUME, HERMITUDE and DISCLOSURE.

How the young producer packs so much into such a tight-lipped production is a thing of beauty. It doesn't seem like a flashy attempt to show off, but it does leave you with the feeling we all had when we heard the emerging work from Disclosure all those years ago now.

The closer you look you start to notice how Tobiahs does things differently; the small accents of his technique present themselves in front of your ears in this track. Tight snares and 808's bump over a heavy distortion on a rather soothing tone, and structurally the song is so fluent it's literally over before you know it. He's reaching that unchartered territory of being a composer of electronic sounds, not just a producer.

Such a vast talent at such a young age, I'm more than excited to see where the growing landscape of electronic music takes this artist.
