It’s a Friday afternoon and you’ve got four o’clock lethargy. You want to put a smile on your dial, but there’s only so long you can spend looking at pictures of cats that look like Ron Swanson before it stops being fun and starts feeling like failure. Lucky for you, I have the solution: You should listen to ‘Steam’, a track from DEEP SEA ARCADE’s debut album Outlands - out March 9.
This track is going to get you fucking psyched for a weekend filled with poodle skirts, milkshakes, handlebar moustaches and not having sex before marriage.
Just kidding (unless that’s what you’re into…). There’s a definite retro influence to this track, but it’s more so a modern homage to The Kinks (and less The Partridge Family), with a chorus catchier than herpes. Singer Nic Mackenzie is on fine form, but it’s the group’s dynamic rhythm section (Nick Weaver and Carlos Adura) providing the energy and vitality that make this song so uplifting.
The five Sydney boys will be supporting Children Collide on their national tour throughout March and April, so you’ve got plenty of time to practice your swing dancing and polish up your penny loafers before enjoying one of the band’s high octane shows.
