Live Review: Slow Poke share the soundtrack to your next roller disco with 'Want It Bad'

Brisbane duo Slow Poke deliver another retro disco/modern deep-house cut with 'Want It Bad', the perfect soundtrack to an 80s roller disco.

Brisbane electronic duo SLOW POKE are back at their usual retro-inspired deep house tricks once again with their brand new track, 'Want It Bad'. Their previous single, 'What They Say', was a perfect blend of disco-y half-step hats and piano stabs with a modern deep house atmosphere, and laid down the perfect groundwork for this next gem.

'Want It Bad' follows this nostalgic motif, being crafted as an imaginary soundtrack for a beach-side roller disco in the 1980s, no doubt replete with hot pants, crazy hair and teenage romance.

A simple synth + piano hook sets the scene here, before the titular vocal sample filters in from the ether. Warm synths, thick percussion and twinkling keys complete picture, evoking the ending of an 80s cult film where the camera pans back to capture the sunset shining on rowdy teens rollerskating right before the credits come in.

It's a short but sweet track - the duo know exactly how to get across what they want and they don't overstay their welcome. It's more about quality over quantity for 'Want It Bad', and with some deliciously warm yet bold production and classic house sound, Slow Poke definitely deliver.
