Starting off 2015 with a bang, Adelaide’s answer to our calling for that perfect atmospheric sound has been tallied by a trio called SKIES_.
The South Australian 3-piece have just dropped their first single of the year, and it’s titled ‘What I Did Before’. The sultry and smooth beats emanating from the track hide epic little treasures that lay within this deep trove of wonder.
Opening with a single layer of sound, the density is forever increasing, with the addition of vocals, heavier percussion and an extra synth line. I think the beauty however is in the subtleties. The quiet backing vocals sit snuggly underneath the second verse, adding that little extra dimension. The synth hit that’s added in the chorus aids in bringing up the intensity too.
SKIES_ harness their brand of emotive synth pop to a T, and it’s nothing short of beauty within a little under 4 minutes. It’s something a little different to ease you out of work mode and into relaxation time, but it works well in being refreshing, calming and elaborate.
