Live Review: Queen Magic ‘Said That You Wanted’

Multi-talented Melbournian musician QUEEN MAGIC has shared his latest single ‘Said That You Wanted’.

Multi-talented Melbournian musician QUEEN MAGIC has shared his latest single ‘Said That You Wanted’, following it with a live performance at Splendour in the Grass this weekend.

Taking over the Red Bull Music Academy stage on Friday afternoon, pictures from his set, show a live one-man set up consisting of keys and guitar to accompany the laptop.

The new single is a cool combination of smooth vocals, neo-soul in style and temperament, soothing synths and accentuated hi-hats. There’s a wavy beat that underpins the sultry vocals, and then an interesting spoken word bit that mixes up the flow nicely. On this particular track Queen Magic sounds really really like Justin Timberlake, circa Justified, which personally I am all for.

Fellow producer and friend Taylor Graves gives a helping hand to create the jazzy yet slightly mournful song. Outkast’s Big Boi is a fan of Queen Magic’s work and he’s been pipped as one to watch in 2015 by London tastemakers Stamp The Wax.

Queen Magic is playing at Melbourne’s Boney on July 31st, alongside Silent Jay and Jace XL, who performed after him at the RBMA stage over the weekend. Be sure to catch them all for a groove-heavy set. Get tickets here!
