You might be inclined to label Gold Coast producer PACES as a ‘future electro music maker’ thanks to his latest track ‘Hold It Down’, which is packed to the rafters with heaps of high pitched vocals, colourful synths and far away island vibes.
Employing the singing duties of Perth’s Reija Lee (although she’s now long gone and based in London), ‘Hold It Down’ is a girl-trap anthem from the loud hip-hop infused producer.
In the assured refrain Lee warns fellas that ‘you better tidy up’, and I for one am glad that Paces and Lee both listened to what their mothers told them about bedroom chores when they were younger.
The kaleidoscopic beats and metallic sparkling synths that splinter the track sound like someone’s forced a glitter pen through the speakers – both the production and vocal performance echo of LIZ and other such girl pop beat makers. It’s a post-millennium mix that is inspired by Jersey Club music (ratchet kicks and beats), future house and garage cuts, as well as a hint of 2014’s most bizarre trend, PC Music.
We may be knee deep in winter, but Paces is determined to bring a bit of warmth to your toes and get them feet dancing. The single is out June 19th along with a B-cut, via etcetc music. For now, get the pre-sale on iTunes.
