Live Review: Oddisee ‘That’s Love’

Oddisee, the son of Sudanese immigrants, grew up on New York hip-hop and his latest track is an unashamed celebration of this cultural heritage.

ODDISEE, the son of Sudanese immigrants, grew up on New York hip-hop and his latest track is an unashamed celebration of this cultural heritage.

‘That’s Love’ sounds victorious and joyous, and is Oddisee’s reminder to you that primarily his focus is on the music before the hip-hop. The tone is upbeat and inspiring, designed to put a spring in your step.

Oddisee’s rapping is on point, but as we said, it’s less about the meaning of the lyrics and more about the overall adoring and affirmative sound that he creates with an orchestra of trumpets, saxophones and horns and high-speed cymbals and snares. He’s a cult fave who’s been putting out great music independently for years now, and this song maintains those high personal standards of sound and production.

The Good Fight, the follow up to 2013’s album, The Beauty In All, is set for release on May 5th this year. Until then, let ‘That’s Love’ show you that love, actually is all around.
