For fans of Ariana Grande or 070 Shake, Norii has shared an ambient alt-pop new single titled “Exocoetidae".

Norii’s first major release, “Exocoetidae” is ambient alt-pop reminiscent of Ariana Grande or 070 Shake led with Norii’s gorgeous soprano voice. A lifelong musician, Norii began writing her own material two years ago from her hometown of San Diego, California, taking a swath of inspiration from acts like rock band Cage the Elephant to electronic duo Ratatat.

The subject of her first single refers to a myth-like flying fish-- something that never touches solid ground, and a personification of her sense of as she moves through the pain to find solace and acceptance. “It’s about realizing that you have the capacity to accept the good and the bad—that’s what makes you an interesting creature,” Norii said in an interview with the author.

The sharp, string and bass-heavy production is courtesy of Supperclub, a production team who contacted Norii after stumbling across a YouTube video of hers with 40 views. Norii plans to release three more singles in the coming months to work towards an EP.
