Masters in low-fi electronica, MOVEMENT, are finally back with new material in the form of ‘Lace’, a teaser for the band’s forthcoming album.
Sparse, tense and with purposeful spaces and silences between each note, ‘Lace’ is slow and trippy in the way that Cyril Hahn and The Weeknd have made slow and trippy ever so chic. Except Movement aren’t a gimmick jumping on a bandwagon; their debut EP last year was met with very warm reviews, critics praising the band’s elegant ambience.
On ‘Lace’, a jazzy snare beat shuffles out from behind lead singer Lewis Wade’s breathy vocals. Lead singer is a little misleading, as the vocals aren’t exactly ground shaking – rather, they’re ushered in quietly and atmospherically, all dark and muffled.
Similarly, the band is purposefully secretive, with very few press images – those that you do come across are shot in murky shades of black.
The demo acts as a taste of things to come from the band’s eagerly anticipated album, which is due out in 2016.
