Many artists have a 'dream collaboration' list they indulge in every now and again, dreaming and hoping that one day they will actually get to work with one of their idols. But for MONTELL2099, that dream became a reality when he recently collaborated with Atlanta based rapper 21 Savage for 'Hunnid on the Drop'.

Red Bull Sound Select approached the young producer in New Zealand with the idea of the collaboration, and Montell2099 got to working on beats right away. Montell2099 made around 20 beats, and played them to 21 Savage. 21 Savage stopped him on third beat and did his thing in the booth, and within a few hours a banger was made. Talking on the topic, Montell2099 says, “This is my first proper single as an artist, so for it to be a collaboration with 21 Savage is so dope. I hope this inspires and motivates young kids from NZ to do what they love and follow their dreams.”

And dope it is. Montell2099 and 21 Savage performed 'Hunnid on the Drop' recently at a Red Bull Sound Select event in L.A, receiving rave reviews for a good reason. A bouncing trap beat, precise percussion, and dark, heavy, crystalline synths perfectly complement 21 Savage's laid back flow. Take a listen below:

Montell2099 has already made waves in the Southern Hemisphere, remixing for the likes of Lorde, Mr Carmack and Sango, as well as opening for Soulection's Joe Kay. For this to be his first ever, proper single as an artist, Montell2099 is definitely doing something right. At 21 years old, this young producer is putting New Zealand back on the map (if it ever even left). Keep up to date on Montell2099's movements via his soundcloud HERE.
