Providing an ultra-cool and refreshing take on guitar-driven indie pop, Matahara is your new favourite artist!
Naarm/Melbourne's Matahara might not yet be a name you're familiar with yet, but her latest single 'Alas, Alas' -premiering on Purple Sneakers today- is the perfect introduction. Sun-soaked guitar-pop, gorgeous hushed vocals and an RnB lean which will make fans of the likes of Toro Y Moi very happy indeed, 'Alas, Alas' is the easy, breezy new jam we need to see the rest of our summer through.
Following on from two similarly ultra-cool, guitar driven indie pop singles in 2020 titled 'What A Waste' and 'Missify', 'Alas, Alas' makes up the third single from Matahara's forthcoming four-track EP, Triple Alliteration, out March 19th. Recorded in producer Michael Vince-Moin's (Tram Cops) bedroom in 2020, Triple Alliteration distills Matahara's unique fusion of pop, electronic, dance and RnB and pairs it with her open and expressive songwriting to create something we haven't quite heard before.
According to Matahara, 'Alas, Alas' takes aim at the difficulties she faced when relocating to Melbourne from Jakarta at age 15, and its theme focuses on the duality of home. Proudly embracing her Indonesian heritage while also exploring her new home, 'Alas, Alas' is an impressive, forward-thinking and refreshing take on indie pop, and we cannot wait to hear more.
