One of the best bits of news that I've heard towards the end of this year has been that there's a LUPA J album on the way. Titled Swallow Me Whole, this one's still on the way, but more importantly, it's happening.
We've just been given the first taste of what we can expect from the record, and it's come to us as 'You're In My Headphones'.
Compared to the rest of her back catalogue, this one's particularly uptempo. The shift in speed ultimately makes for a new kind of delivery from the Sydney artist, showcasing complex melodies, stunning vocal harmonies and a sense of relief that we haven't felt from her before. It's been an explorative time for Lupa J, resulting in this newfound sound. Of this period, she says:
“I was excited about a set of new things happening in my life, there was this new kind of freshness to how I felt, so I found myself listening to a bunch of fun pop songs a lot - and then eventually writing something with that kind of mood too.”
'You're In My Headphones' follows 'Drift', a candid account of coming to terms with identity and change. Where 'Drift' was an account of realisation, 'You're In My Headphones' is an exploration of the duality of joy and conflict.

Lupa J's sound is continually evolving around her expert ability to musically interpret what she's feeling. Her sound is both candid and complex, which is why we're highly anticipating what's to come.
