Well here's a way to flip everything on it's head. Welcome LONTALIUS' latest single.
But then again, maybe this is what the young Kiwi has been doing since day one? Actually, yes that's exactly what he's been doing. Take one look at his demo's, SoundCloud stream and any other drippings of sound from Lontalius, and it's obvious he's a musical chameleon.
His previous single was wrapped up in synths and it felt as though life after Ryan Hemsworth colab was to be an electronic one for Lontalius, but 'Kick In The Head' stands as a organic, simple, almost folky number.
The arrangement is offers up so many layers, that it's impossible to let this track fall into a category such as folk. The intricate details work so smoothly with Johnston's vocals, each thump of the beat and strum of the guitar feels warped - with the addition of strings and samples towards the end it all falls in on itself. One beautiful lump of songwriting gold.
Lontalius' debut album is due in 2016 on Partisan Records/POD.
