Ahead of the release of his new EP, Silver Linings, out at the end of this month, UK singer/songwriter LEO KALYAN is doing a pretty good job at keeping everyone very interested with his latest single, 'Golden Age'. A swirling, delicate, dreamy slice of electro-pop, 'Golden Age' has blown up on the Internet, and for very good reason.
Featuring his gentle, breathy vocals and intimate lyrics, Kalyan gives new meaning to the word "smooth" in this track. He welcomes you in with his R&B croon, above a bed of shifting beats and gentle synth chords. Erratic claps, lasers and vocal samples come into play as the train gains momentum, but Kalyan's voice never shifts from it's delicate place.
It's deep bass is juxtaposed with it's soft synths, but there is something so seductive about 'Golden Age'. It's inviting and warm in the way it swells and grows, with just enough added in the production to give it more depth than your average electro R&B infusion. It's density is what grounds it, keeping 'Golden Age', and by extension Kalyan steady in the intensity.
In a time where genres are quickly overdone and oversaturated with all-too-similar works, it's tracks like 'Golden Age' that breathe new life into these styles. Leo Kalyan is definitely one to keep an eye on, and his Silver Linings EP could not come soon enough.
