Sydney-based artist KYMIE is no stranger to the music game. She has opened for stars like Ja Rule and worked with artists Domba, Korky Buchek and the Bodega Collective just to name a few. A singer from day dot, it’s easy to hear the sticking power in the star’s Soul and R’n’B-influenced vocals, with newest single ‘NEEDS’ being no exception to this rule.

Produced by fellow Sydney-sider and talent Kwame, ‘NEEDS’ is seductive and sensual with a gnashing of trap influence to make for an all-round zinger of a tune. Kymie quick-talks some speedy lyricism throughout each trappy verse before taunting her listeners with the promise that she’s far more than “just a pretty face” as the choruses take on a more traditional R’n’B vibe. The artist's ability to fluctuate between these contrasting vocal styles is a treat to hear and provides dimension to the track. We’re here for it.

Kwame’s deceptively minimalist production on ‘NEEDS’ deserves some additional special mentioning, as prodding bass notes, trappy drums and injections of atmospheric synth paints a musical picture for the melting pot that really is Australian music right now. It’s not quite trap, not quite hip-hop, a little electronic and a little bit soulful. It’s that dubious casserole from the 70’s that somehow tastes amazing despite its seemingly ill-matched ingredients and boy, are we hungry.

With 'NEEDS' premiered on ACCLAIM and quickly picking up radio rotation from Triple J and FBi Radio, this is undoubtedly an excellent end to the year for Kymie with the help of her Sydney posse. To top it all off, she's getting ready to amp this release up with some visuals to accompany the track very shortly too. Keep your eyes peeled.
