Philadelphia's Kurt Vile is back to release his new album 'Wakin On A Pretty Daze' in April. To warm us up, here's the album opener, 'Wakin On A Pretty Day'.

It's been a little while since we're heard from Philadelphia rocker KURT VILE. It seems as though he's been hiding behind those long locks of his since he released his sublime fourth record, Smoke Ring For My Halo back in 2011.

However, considering recent news, clearly some (possible even the entire two years) of this time has been used quite productively as Vile is set to release his brand new record Wakin On A Pretty Daze on Friday, 5th April though Matador/Remote Control! It will be available as a double record, holding 69 minutes worth of sonic gold.

The lengthy album was recorded by Vile with producer John Agnello at a series of studios across Northeast America throughout the later months of 2012. On the lead up to the release of Wakin On A Pretty Daze, the opening track of the record has been released, similarly titled 'Wakin On A Pretty Day'.

Almost 10 minutes in length, the track is a shoe into what we can expect from Wakin On A Pretty Daze.

A lot more cleaner than its predecessor, 'Wakin On A Pretty Day' is a concoction of a steady drumbeat, the strumming on an acoustic guitar, subtle bass, occasional electric guitar and Vile's effortlessly cool and soothing vocals. You will find guitar solos in this tune, however it ultimately offers easy listening as it lacks any sort of kick. That isn't to say it's a bad track, however I'm personally hoping for something to truly grab me upon listening to the upcoming album once it's released.

The video itself features Philadelphia street artist ESPO creating the mural that is to be photographed with Kurt as the cover art for the new record. Painting against an abandoned building in both artists' hometown, the mural is a visual depiction of Wakin On A Pretty Daze's lyricism. It's also to be noted that this is not the official clip for the tune, it's simply just a fusion of elements that will be found on the upcoming release.

Check out the short documentary on the mural.
