Live Review: PREMIERE: Kuren levels up with his remix of The Kite String Tangle's 'Selfish'

KUREN is a name that is increasingly everywhere, and for very good reason. The once regional NSW/now Sydney based producer is responsible for some of the biggest tracks to come out of Australia over the past few months, and is showing absolutely no signs of slowing down any time soon. Now, he's added another feather in his cap with an official remix for one of Australia's dance music frontrunners, THE KITE STRING TANGLE.

TKST returned earlier this year with the earworm track of 'Selfish', and today we have the first listen of Kuren's rework.

Completely overhauling it, Kuren takes the original track, which was gentle and sweet, and blasts it into hyperspeed. With huge breaks, mammoth drops and calculated production in between, he comes at this remix with all he's got. Starting off with some crisp guitar, he keeps the original vocals in tact as he begins to build a storm underneath them. Slowly inching closer and closer to breaking point, the tension finally breaks with a glitchy, powerful drop that is equal parts restrained as it is impressive.

From here, Kuren navigates seamlessly between slight reprieves and diving back in for more. Coming a long way from his debut releases which was what got our attention in the first place, this release symbolises the progression Kuren so far - and highlights where he's going to next. I'm no fortune teller, but I can hazard a safe guess the only way he's going is straight to the top.

You can catch Kuren live this month as he tours the country with SLUMBERJACK, before he takes to the nation's biggest stage at Splendour In The Grass come July. It's an exciting time for Kuren, and we're lucky to watch him rise!
