Melbourne multi-instrumentalist/legend KIRKIS has made a name for himself by doing things a little differently. His latest offering, 'Hypno', follows by example. The hyperactive track is the first release from the beatmaker for 2015, and perhaps his strongest yet.
Infusing jazz with quirky electronic and 70's style vocal harmonies, Kirkis is leading the way with this track. As it quickly deviates into something completely different, the intergalactic jam is exciting and intriguing upon first listen. It's frenetic, but controlled, and demonstrates some serious skill on Kirkis' part!
As the track title would suggest, the back and forth in 'Hypno' is indeed hypnotic. Starting off with relaxed vocal harmonies over a dreamy jazz piano melody, the bass drops and things really kick off. Swirling into space, the track bounces and soars with delicate keys and just enough "ooooh"s and "ahhhh"s, before returning to where the track started, repeating the process again. It's this rapid-fire change from jazz lounge harmonies to all out psychedelic electro that keeps you intrigued, waiting to hear where it will go.
Following on from a string of 2014 releases including 'Mirror' and 'Bristol Paintings' as well as his electronic alter ego ANTI-KIRKIS, this is an exciting release indicative of what is still to come from the producer. Tipped to be releasing a full length album later this year through Eglo Records, 'Hypno' has us extremely excited to see what he does next!
