Live Review: Kate Martin's debuts soothing single 'Set My Life to Fire'

Melbourne based solo artist KATE MARTIN unveils the newest single off her forthcoming album, 'Set My Life to Fire.' Despite the outwardly seeming fiery connotations, the only feelings 'Set My Life to Fire' ignite are that of calm, serenity and acceptance. Kate Martin gets existential in this coming of age single. 'Set My Life To Fire' examines those uncomfortable feelings we all come across when our ideals are shattered as we grow up, and learn about our place in the world. It's about “burning the pre-conceived notions I had about how my life would turn out,” Martin commented.

Co-produced by JOHN HUME, Kate Martin displays an intense maturity with this sweetly sung, pop song. There's a strong essence of bittersweet beauty across 'Set My Life To Fire,' mostly due to the slow and constant piano melody and broken snare. The percussion works tightly together with a dramatic build up and melancholic guitar that's highly reminiscent of a classic track like 'I Need My Girl' by THE NATIONAL. The echoey, almost water like sounding electronica adds a real atmosphere to the tune, which builds into quite the subtle, yet emotive soundscape.

'Set My Life to Fire' is a gentle, yet deeply moving masterpiece from Kate Martin. If it's any representation of what we can expect from Martin's album that'll be dropping in June, we're waiting for our new guilty pleasure crying album with baited breath.
