What was once a delicate, intimate track has been turned into a thumping, understated banger thanks to ALICE IVY's latest remix, coming in the form of HUNTLY's 'Kate's Bed'. Two of Australia's most exciting acts in their own rights, and Purple Sneakers favourites, come together in musical harmony, and you can listen first right here.
The track, taken from Huntly's 2017 EP, Songs In Your Name, is a slow jam with hypnotic loops, muffled drum pads, gentle synths and a certain vulnerablity on full display thanks to the beautiful lyrics and harmonies. Ivy, who is becoming just as loved for her remixes as she is for her original material, hones in on this. It's easy to lose the vulnerability of some songs in a remix, but Ivy protects it, looping Elly Scrine's vocals asking, "Are you satisfied?" With some warm, opening chords and Scrine's voice playing over and over again, Ivy sets the scene for what's to come.
Crisp beats, thick synths and bass and edited vocals create a bed that Ivy works and reworks, before pulling everything back for Scrine to sing. Building it all up, pulling it all back and creating some positively knee-weakening drops, Ivy wants you to revel in the intimacy of Huntly.
Scrine said of the track, "It came out of Alice Ivy teaching me how to use this computer music software and at one point basically saying, 'Hey, let's do something together, how about I do a remix for you guys?' So it was a pretty beautiful experience of femmes showing solidarity and respect for each other's craft."
If Alice Ivy isn't on your radar as one of the best producers in the country, you need to take a good look at your radar. She's one to keep both eyes firmly on, as she continues to absolutely nail everything she puts her hands on. The same goes for Huntly, three exceptional songwriters that have a consistently impressive catalogue of tracks and an electrifying live show, they're serious contenders in the electronic scene. This remix is a match made in heaven, and it's out today!
