Adelaide electro-pop duo HOMEWARD BOUND have proven that you don't have to flip your calendar over to December 1st to start feeling those carefree summer vibes - their sophomore single 'Be' is everything you need and more to get a hearty dose of goodness into your day.
A recent signing to the beautiful Elefant Tracks family, Homeward Bound is a project between rapper/producer Jimblah and Goji (aka Georgia B), with the sole aim of crafting some left-of-centre electro-pop bops with a pinch of hip-hop. As if you needed any proof that's a winning formula, their debut 'Island' racked up 100,000 streams on Spotify in just two months. Where 'Island' presented a more stripped back sound, 'Be' is bursting with energy and positivity, with a core message according to the duo: " 'Be' is what it means to embrace yourself for who you truly are, without being limited by others perceptions of what you can amount to."
With a lede as good as “They told me I’d never ‘mount to shit / well baby I’m the shit now”, 'Be' starts out strong and gets stronger. Exuding buoyant energy through crisp and bouncy percussion driving a quirky melodic interplay between electronic keys, bass and glitchy vocal samples. Jimblah's flow handles the verses while Goji's catchy vocal hooks make 'Be' prime ear worm material. It's a short but sweet song that pulls off exactly what it sets out to do - craft a bouncy summer jam that will get the whole room moving.
There's something profoundly wholesome about tracks that are shamelessly positive and empowering, and 'Be' stands as one of the finest examples in recent memory. It's quirky, unique and has so much love put into it - and it shows. It's clear the magic of 'Island' wasn't a fluke, and Homeward Bound have got the chops to create a true summer banger.
