Live Review: Gill Bates brings irresistible R&B to the table on 'Diamonds And Gold'

Gill Bates is a rapper hailing from Brisbane and he is bringing a R&B vibe on his new track 'Diamonds and Gold' produced by fellow Brisbane native B87.

Gill Bates has a style that is a mix of R&B and hip hop, which is not too uncommon these days with artists like Travis Scott, Bryson Tiller and a handful of others pushing the envelope by being more melodic in their vocal delivery. Gill Bates brings his own style to his music by using vocal effects and  interesting methods of overdubbing to add flavor to his vocals.

'Diamonds And Gold' is a powerful track that has some real presence in it. The production is very dense and with many layers of vocals, it's a track made to be played live as it is seething with energy when it takes off.

Certain parts of this track, mainly the breakdown, feel like they take the flow and inflection of Canadian R&B and add a raw energy that differentiates it from other R&B. The final stage of this track sounds like it has been influenced by Kanye with the vocal effects and the bravado of all the track's elements coming together in a climax of sorts. Regardless if these influences were the driving factor or not, the blend of all of them is such an enjoyable combination that 'Diamonds And Gold' is one you'll want on repeat.
