Swedish producer HNNY pares back this atmospheric Flight Facilities track to bring the syrupy vocals to the forefront.
If the original track from Flight Facilities was the musical expression of your vibe at midnight when you’ve hit the crescendo of your spiced-rum-fuelled exuberance and you’re a sweat-sodden mess bouncing between the d-floor and smoker’s, this remix is the 5 AM cab ride home with the window wound down.
You're holding onto the hand of the beautiful stranger next to you who may or may not be (but probably isn’t, let's be honest) the love of your life.
Swedish producer HNNY (and yes, it’s pronounced ‘honey’) started producing music at age 12, making hip-hop beats by looping samples from his parents’ collection of Seventies vinyls over each other. He’s built a corner of the electronic music scene for himself by releasing thoughtful, carefree tracks that he describes as “happy music”.
This remix is typical of his catalogue: pared back, as if he’s isolated aspects of the track that flew under the radar in the original and put them under a microscope, placing emphasis on little details or moments in the track that redefine it as a whole.

Like the version you’ve come to know and love over the past month, this rendering is atmospheric and nostalgic, symbiotic with the original, and just similar enough to spot the differences.
The pared back, drawling nature of the remix emphasises Elizabeth Rose’s syrupy vocals, bringing them to the forefront. In the process, HNNY’s stripped away some of the melodic, twinkling, purposeful imperfections that coloured the tone of the original. With all of those delightful distractions gone, the groovy underbelly has a chance to really shine – with the addition of subtle elements that give pause, including a sound eerily similar to crickets in the distance during quieter moments that pepper the body of the track.
Want more HNNY? He'll be at Strawberry Fields and OutsideIn this summer.
Can't wait? He’s on the newly released House of JEUDI collab, out now on Beatport.
Words by Cheryl Billman.
