Sydney producer ENDGRAIN has released the rattling tune '4x4', and it's a jam you can shake your shoulders to. The first artist in a while to be signed to October Records, everything about this musician feels fresh.
His debut single under the name 'Endgrain', '4x4' is the fine-tuned effort of music enthusiast Jackson May. Part of the team behind Translate Sound System (a business that specialises in building sound systems out of plywood), Endgrain understands the music industry from all perspectives.
'4x4' is a track that doesn't wish to overpower or control. Instead it lays down a solid percussion that will have you grooving before you even realise. The percussion continues to teeter and tick as the track makes way for a sample of NOIR's song 'All About House'. "Wonder what the house will be like in the future? Wonder what the clubs will be like?" These spoken words break up the strictly instrumental song. "Now that technology has taken over the DJ world, what will a DJ be like in the future? Lets just hope that house music will keep its soul."
Endgrain's passion for music shines through in all aspects. From the cleverly curated technicality of the song, to the choice of such pensive lyrics, '4x4' is an intriguing debut. You can catch him launch his new single live at October Records' next club night in March.
