Sydney pc-pop producer Donatachi has kicked off 2019 with 'Do What I Want' feat. Evangeline - an unashamed celebration of queerness via buoyant pop magic.
Sydney's very own purveyor of PC-pop DONATACHI has dropped yet another glittery and bouncy bop in the form of 'Do What I Want' featuring Melbourne singer-songwriter Evangeline. The single comes alongside the announcement that he's signed on with etcetc music, joining esteemed electronic names and (Purple Sneakers faves) like CLYPSO, Luboku, and PNAU.
Donatachi's signing and latest single is yet another cherry on top of the massive year the genre-melding producer has had thus far. It comes off the back of being hand-picked by Kim Petras for her sold-out Mardi Gras sideshows, and a sting supporting Brisbane star Mallrat on her sold-out 2018 tour. 'Do What I Want' is a sugary-sweet taste of his upcoming EP, fittingly called TASTE, which is due out in the coming months.
Donatachi says the track is "a pure pop expression of embracing my queerness as an artist in an often rigid industry." With buoyant production and euphoric pop hooks, 'Do What I Want' feels like an unashamed celebration of uniqueness - fitting, since the track also highlights Donatachi's unique spin on the PC Music formula that has made him so well known. Glitchy sound effects and production tweaks filter in through the track's pop-centred hooks and Evangeline's vocals, leading to a track that thrums with energy.

With lyrics like "They tell me to straighten up / but I love my curls," Donatachi is fully embracing his identity on 'Do What I Want'. It's a glitzy and ecstatic reminder that nobody does you like you, and that you too can do whatever the hell you want. Above all, it's a catchy-as-all-get-out pop banger that shows Donatachi is still on top of his game.
