DIVIDEM are fast becoming Melbourne’s coolest new kids on the block. They have all the fun vibes, without being too clean and shiny. Basically you can take them home to Mum, but your friends will think you are edgy when you rock up to a party with them. Their latest offering ‘The Beat Is My Master’ is part dirty, part quirky, 100% banger.
Dividem are just two “quirky guys who make really dirty house”, so ultimately their tracks should always come as a surprise. ‘The Beat Is My Master’ takes them in a different direction from previous offerings such as the softer ‘All In My Head’. This one conjures up visions of a much sweatier, 4am type dance floor where you have forgotten your own name, and all you care about is your master, the beat. You’ll do whatever the beat wants, so fortunately Dividem know exactly how to create a beat worth surrendering for.
‘The Beat Is My Master’ has a lot going on sound wise. It keeps your ears busy, but not confused, because no one wants that too late at night. It has a kind of creepy edge with the manipulated vocals that sound like something potentially out of a horror film.
Dividem are playing their second year at Beyond The Valley over New Years. If you have been lucky enough to nab tickets for the festival, make sure you don’t miss them, as they will certainly be one of the highlights. If you have missed out, they have announced an EP launch at Shebeen Bandroom on January 16th. You can grab tickets here.
