Live Review: LISTEN: Crystal Fighters 'You & I' (Yeasayer Remix)

Brooklyn’s quiet achievers YEASAYER have just put out a rendition of the latest Crystal Fighters single “You & I” with their psychedelic touch creating a remix almost unrecognisable.

The bustling rhythms and optimistic vibes of the original tune evolve into slow choppy beats and the sing-a-long chorus is replaced by abstract dark vocals. In come swirling loops, hip-hop drums and tons of electronics. Underneath this all lies twinkling synth and a pulsing bass line enriched with the signature Yeasayer hazy sound.

It’s not often that the foursome takes on such a minimal approach to music but it rolls into an edgy but seductive soundscape. Given the slower tempo, it rides on fairly smoothly but reaches no point of crescendo. A perfect wind-up track for the weekend.
