'Ghosthunters' was always one of my favourite shows on TV. There was always some invigorating kick from watching people locked inside an empty scout hall or castle absolutely shitting themselves.
There’s an essence of madness and haunting longevity that tends to linger throughout the set, and I think that’s really something that can only be captured through a) mood and b) the emotion’s of the subjects.
XINOBI’s take on BLUEHOST’s killer number ‘Tonight’ featuring SHINDU somehow encompasses this exact feeling.
It’s exhilarating, but quite lo-fi, as the haunting bassline and progressive synth tends to stick to the forefront of the single. Terrifying in its prowess, it really sneaks up on you and it’s the subtleties that make it so prominent.
Xinobi’s done something different here, and that’s matching the mood to the sounds, something that is actually really hard. It’s terror personified, but it’s elegant and quite fixating in its delivery.
