The up and coming bad ass girl rapper AZEALIA BANKS doesn’t fail to provide listeners with island beats and sharp rhymes on her latest track, ‘Jumanji’. The track was produced by Hudson Mohawke and Nick Hook and has already gotten 7,400 likes through Facebook despite it being released to the public only 48 hours ago.
Although ‘Jumanji’ doesn’t make reference to Robin Williams and that creepy board game we all came to know back in the 90s, the tune contrasts upbeat tempo with dark vocals, maintaining an effortless cool. BANKS has a mouth like a sailor as she talks about bitches in cabanas mixing rhythms from the Caribbean with a New York rap aesthetic. She is like a bi-product of Lil Kim but with less plastic surgery and denim nipple covers.
This track is the perfect sequel to her hit, ‘212’ that oddly reached number 3 on both the Indie and R & B UK Charts. That may explain the refreshing spin that BANKS has taken on her music, breaking the code of genres. Needless to say, ‘Jumanji’ will have the punters at Splendour in the Grass krumping with a pina colada in hand. Only 74 sleeps to go.
