The Belgium electro mash-up kings have turned this song into a squelching, popping piece of slow-build dance-pop.
With its droning synth and pounding rhythm, 'Sprawl II (Mountains Beyond Mountains)' is probably the most remix-friendly track off Arcade Fire’s 2010 album The Suburbs. Still, it was still going to take a special talent to do it justice.
Enter Soulwax. The Belgium electro mash-up kings who have turned the song into a squelching, popping piece of slow-build dance-pop. Regine Chassange’s voice is altered slightly to make it even more girlish and slightly creepy, before Win Butler’s smooth drawl comes in, spliced and repeated to create a very effective mood. The contrast between the vocals’ natural authenticity and the electronic backing helps to make this one of the more interesting remixes around.
