Live Review: AIYA 'If I Could Get'

You know we like to be the spoon that feeds you fresh talent, and it's even better when it's from home ground - Australian newcomers (Melbourne to be precise) Ayten Ahmet and Felicity Yang, make up AIYA, and only a mere 4 days ago have put forward their first track 'If I Could Get', and it's nothing short of spectacular.

Both members began their music careers (not so long ago) as solo acts, and in an interview last year, Yang made no mentions of the new development to be - AIYA.

Hearing their past productions it is clear they both gravitate towards the minimalistic approach, but each have their own way of interpretation which is distinctly apparent in 'If I Could Get'. The soothing ambience seems to come from Felicity, whereas the sharper contrasting sounds have more of Ayten's fingerprints to it, this being said, they must have a similar ear for experimenting and knowing what works, which is why together they have created such a beautiful piece.

Their first track is a jerky collection of minimalistic electro loops, there is a slow build without reaching an over the top and unnecessary climax. With atmospheric echoes and glitches matched with the perfect use of space, the delicacy in their voice is heightened. There is an essence of FKA Twigs in their style, however the jerky use of electronics also reminds me of a softened ELDERBROOK, either way, although similarities can be found, the way they have put this piece together is truly unique. They have created a sound of their own.

There is not much to know about AIYA as of yet, but after hearing this, it seems their music speaks for them. These are 100% a pair to follow, I know I will be eagerly checking their page like a jealousy-ridden girlfriend awaiting the release of their next track, I suggest you do the same.
