Live Review: AIYA 'Go'

From their first single 'If I Could Get', it was clear Melbourne duo AIYA were onto a good thing. Now, with the release of their second ever track 'Go', the only problem is that we may have underestimated just how much they have going on. Practically redefining "smooth", 'Go' is a slow, shifting jam with a lot to give. 

Packed with a plethora of strange beats and sounds, AIYA twist and turn 'Go' into a swelling, glitchy track that has so much going on. Luckily, Ayten Ahmet and Felicity Yang exercise complete control over the minimal, yet immense, song. From breathy vocals, subtle production glitches, clangs and twisted samples, 'Go' deviates quickly and suddenly, but is softened somehow to make it just as calming as it is unsettling. Very strange indeed, but when it sounds like this, we're hardly complaining.

Both established artists in their own, individual right, the polished and refined nature of both AIYA's tracks hardly come as a surprise. In fact, as with their debut single, 'Go' highlights not only the individual styles of both ladies, but the uncompromising chemistry they seem to have together. Taking influence from frontrunners like FKA twigs or Kelela, Ahmet and Yang blend their signature sounds and influences into something not often heard - and if it is heard, it definitely doesn't sound quite as good as this.

Still keeping to themselves for the most part, there isn't much more information floating around about this duo. However, if they continue to pump out tracks of this standard, the music will do the talking for them. We can't wait for track three!
