Album Review: Lagwagon - 'I Think My Older Brother Used To Listen To Lagwagon'

StarStarStarHalf Star

Back for another round…

More Lagwagon Lagwagon Profile

I’m not sure what it’s like overseas, but it seems like the bulk of the Fat Wreck Chords roster could consistently release records and we, the loyal public, will continue to lap that shit up. Lagwagon are one such band that has been able to defy musical trends and still retain a sizeable (and vocal) fan base, one that has ensured the band’s most recent Australian tour has all but sold out!

Putting the highly amusing title aside (nothing better than a band that knows how to have a laugh at their own expense), this EP is a bit hit or miss, especially when you compare it Lagwagon’s earlier material. Yes, Joey’s catchy melodies are still in place, but with the emphasis being firmly placed on the mid-tempo numbers, long-time fans are likely to be disappointed.

The stand out track would have to be “Errands”, as it fully showcases what the veteran five-piece is capable of when they put their collective feet to the floor. If only Chris Flippin was allowed to unleash on his guitar like that in every song!

None of the tracks on offer are terrible, but if you’re in the same boat as myself then the band’s back catalogue will have you longing for a return to the D’uh, Trashed and Hoss days.
