Album Review: Kris Bowers - Heroes + Misfits

Unapologetically modern, this album will not sate jazz purists, but to an open ear for the now, Bowers is certainly a talent to keep an eye on.

More Kris Bowers More Kris Bowers

Twenty-four-year-old Bowers sounds experienced beyond his years. His debut record, Heroes + Misfits, kicks off properly with the aptly-titled Wake The Neighbors, an infectiously groovy piece of jazz fusion that sounds like it should come from a musician revitalising his career, not beginning it. The whole album reeks of a mature voice – Bowers' own piano playing rarely takes centre stage on what is a real 'band' album. Unapologetically modern, this album will not sate jazz purists, but to an open ear for the now, Bowers is certainly a talent to keep an eye on.
