Highlight of the EP: Ella, for its heartfelt delivery and the profound sense of a powerful family bond behind it.
Local Perth vocalist and composer Kate Gilbertson is certainly in talented company, and it has really shown on this release. With world-class session musicians playing on her debut EP, the recording is brilliantly crafted and performed. However, Gilbertson is certainly not one to be outshined on this release; her vocals are pristine and downright charming, her songs are emotive and insightful and her musicianship and writing is wonderful. Swing opens the record up with a simple concept that steadily ascends into a full-band, and Home brings the whole thing to a well-rounded end. Backed by an incredible support ensemble, Olive Street is a truly well founded debut. Highlight of the EP: Ella, for its heartfelt delivery and the profound sense of a powerful family bond behind it.
