Album Review: Johnny Cash - Out Among The Stars

"Country music for a pop audience"

More Johnny Cash Johnny Cash

Here's a reminder of a side of Johnny Cash overlooked a little in the wake of his passing: the Rick Rubin cuts from late in his career and the bootlegs of recent years. These recordings from 1981 and 1984 are impossibly slick and sound dated: country music for a pop audience, recorded to try and bolster Cash's waning album sales. But Johnny Cash always had amazing songs and that shows here; every track is worth your time, from the dark title track to the sappy Call Your Mother and Waylon Jennings duet I'm Movin' On.
