Jimmy Eat WorldWhat to make of Jimmy Eat World’s tenth studio album? After ten albums and a 25-year rollercoaster, Surviving cuts to the chase with a no fuss, no muss approach, presenting intentionally catchy melodies and, dare it be said, formal song structures.
Nevertheless, the band’s loyalties to their own pop-rock sentiments remain, and while it doesn’t make for a very eclectic or even exciting listen, there are enough throwbacks and familiarity to feel comfortable. However, Surviving manages to find itself moving faster and with greater flair than its more stripped-back predecessors. Jimmy Eat World have always been masters of capturing heartfelt emotions and giving them some pretty profound soundtracks, and on this album, it's no different.
It’s like greeting a very old friend – even though they never seem to have anything new to talk about, you still listen and you still love them.
