"In between the vulgarity and the crudeness, this is a man that has a very clever head on his shoulders."
The Sydney Comedy Festival kicked off large with the ever-controversial, Jim Jefferies. This is the man that went hugely viral with his gun control video and attracts your less PC sort of crowd with his famously borderline comedy — we had certain expectations, but we were to be surprised.
'Insightful' may not be a word to usually describe Jefferies, but he actually is. Yes, there are crude jokes about religion and porn. Yes, he does describe himself as the "Rosa Parks of cunt". Yes, he does dislike Swedes and children, but in between the vulgarity and the crudeness, this is a man that has a very clever head on his shoulders.
There were moments when we were prepared to be shocked, but each time he would come through with a punch line that actually made some sense, as well as being deliciously funny. It's true that the crowd was neither multicultural or balanced in gender (Jefferies himself points out it could be a Klan rally), but when he discusses how 'Love beats hate' we can't help but applaud.

Jim Jefferies is selling out theatres because he says the things that we wish we could and does it surprisingly eloquently. Although, maybe the bit about cum-shots from Jesus was not quite so much.
